FEATURED AUTHOR – KATHERINE LOWRY LOGAN
Q: What kind of work did you do before you became a writer? Are you still doing it?
A: Once upon a time…I was a real estate and tax paralegal, an executive assistant and office manager at the fundraising arm of a public television station, a mining company, and a church. Then I quit to chase my dream. I’ve had several lives in my six decades, but by far, my favorite is the one I’m living now— full-time author!
Q: What sub-genre is The Last MacKlenna? What other genres do you write? What is your favorite?
A: The Last MacKlenna is a contemporary romance with paranormal elements, mystery and suspense. It is a foundation book for a series with a large expanding family of time traveling adventurers. All the books, whether historical or contemporary, focus on strong women, dependable men, and family love and loyalty. Fans have become so attached to the MacKlenna Clan that readers emailed me asking if the fictional Montgomery Winery in Napa Valley had survived the fires of 2017.
Q: Why are you writing romances with older characters?
I write about characters in the mid-thirties, forties, and fifties. They are professionals who balance life, work, and families. They don’t always do it perfectly, but they try. They are strong women in touch with who they are and what they want, and they find strong men who want to be their partners in life and in love.
Q: What’s the craziest place you ever tried to write? Or the craziest ritual you have? Maybe something you have to have to write and what it does for you?
I write up to seven-hundred-page novels, bringing history, sights, sounds, smells, and emotions of forgotten eras into the minds of readers. I have flexibility while researching for my next book, but I stay intensively focused during the writing process. My days typically start at six o’clock in the morning and I work until eight or nine at night, seven days a week for about three months. It’s a crazy schedule, but without it, I’d never finish a novel!
AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT – JM MADDEN
From the author…
I’ve been writing the Lost and Found series since 2012. That was the date I first published The Embattled Road, scared to death that people would think I was crazy writing about disabled veterans. But now, 5 years later, I realize that making the public aware of vets is just as important as it always was.
I told my husband the other day about something one of my characters had done in a book (specifically, John Palmer complaining about puppy training from Forget Me Not) and he looked at me like I was crazy because I was talking about the incident as if it had really happened. And in my mind, it HAD happened! These men are so real to me that yes I laughed when I wrote that scene, then had to tell a friend and my hubby about it.
Yes, I’m heading in a different direction with the Honeywell, Texas series, one that I’m SUPER excited about, but you’ll see many of the same characters from the LNF series included. And, me being me, there will be veterans involved, as well as other subjects I’m passionate about. I talk about women’s issues, the crisis with the wild horses and the BLM, and veterans. I’ll be introducing new characters for you to fall in love with, and revisiting favorites. Exactly how a favorite series should be, right?
